Its origins date back to the 6th century, when prayers were offered to the Kamo deities for relief from disasters and poor harvests. In the Heian period it became an important imperial rite, with an envoy sent by the Emperor, and it has been preserved as a sacred court ceremony ever since. On May 15 each year, the elegant Roto-no-gi procession moves from the Kyoto Imperial Palace to the two shrines. Participants dressed in authentic Heian-period court costumes recreate the atmosphere of the ancient capital, their garments carefully arranged according to historical knowledge and traditional dressing techniques. The Aoi Matsuri is one of Kyoto’s Three Great Festivals and also counted among Japan’s Three Imperial Festivals. It appears in The Tale of Genji and is widely known as a symbol of classical court culture. For more than 1,500 years, it has carried forward the spirit, prayer, and refined beauty of Japanese tradition.13:T4c2,■ Concept MUSUBI is SEIGA’s cultural experience program, created to share the true spirit of Japanese tradition. Rather than simply observing culture, our guests are invited to feel it quietly, gracefully, and personally—so that each encounter becomes a lasting memory. Through kimono dressing, etiquette, seasonal aesthetics, Japanese cuisine, and introductions to classical court attire and the art of emon (traditional costume dressing), we offer authentic experiences shaped by knowledge, lineage, and care. ■ Our Philosophy To connect people. To connect culture with the future. To connect Japan with the world. Rooted in SEIGA’s tradition of court costume dressing and classical cultural study, MUSUBI offers refined experiences guided by genuine skill and heartfelt hospitality. ■ Experiences ● Juni-hitoe Try-on Experience ● Uchikake Try-on Experience (Coming Soon) ● Yokohama Temple Calligraphy & Kanji Name ● Kamakura Japanese Culinary Culture Experience - Onigiri Making & Formal Shrine Worship- (Coming Soon)14:T52e,Japanese culture has long been cherished around the world. Rooted in ancient traditions and expressed today through animation and the arts, it has grown into a culture loved across borders and generations. Yet its true essence lies not only in form, but in the spirit and daily practice that have been quietly passed from one person to another. To refine one’s appearance is to refine one’s heart. To dress is to honor oneself and to care for others. Having inherited the teachings of both the Miyajima School of Classical Court Attire and the Seiga School of Contemporary Dressing founded by Masako Hirako, I have devoted myself to preserving Japan’s traditional culture through the technique and spirit of emon. Today, I serve as a dresser of court attire for the Aoi Festival in Kyoto, a ceremony that carries over 1,500 years of history, helping to pass our cultural heritage on to the present day. About the Aoi Matsuri Seiga itself is a continuous journey — inheriting culture and carrying it forward into the future. As an extension of this path, we have launched “MUSUBI,” a cultural experience initiative that connects people, culture, and the world. Purely. Gracefully. We will carry forward the beauty and spirit entrusted to us, and quietly yet surely bind them to the future.15:T908,
